How it Feels

It is always a little tricky to explain to someone else how do you feel when you are in that dark place. And if your concern for a person going through Depression is genuine I recommend that you educate yourself a little, as this will make the difference between Sympathy and Empathy.
Sympathy is patronising someone from the place of ‘oh, poor you’ and I guess I don’t have to answer, if this is welcome or not.
Empathy in comparison comes from the place ‘I know how you feel, I have been there’ and involves mainly listening, instead of attempting to fix.

At a low point today I thought of a book I read a few years ago, Kenneth Cook’s ‘Wake in Fright’. It is one of the best pieces written and one of the most remarkable films made in Australia.
The feeling I had after reading the book is very similar to the emotion I go through when I am in a down phase.
I would not suggest to read it, if you are going through Depression. I can recommend it, if you have someone close to you who goes through this phase in their life and you want to know how it feels, as one can usually not really describe it in words.

Stephen Fry though may be a person who can.
